People who live in the shadow of a disorder or disability

People who live in the shadow of a disorder or disability

Excuses
I have heard people say oh I have this therefore I can’t do this or I won’t succeed. I hate to tell you that it’s just an excuse. Yes you have a disorder, I have a full list of them my self, but when does that give you an excuse not to even try. All a disorder is a name for how you learn and the struggles you are having, nothing more. It is not a free ride through life and it certainly will not get you out of anything as well, it shouldn’t. I have struggled since day one. I had teachers tell my I’d never graduate high school let alone college with honors.  I have gone through ever trial you could probably think of when dealing with learning disabilities. But when you are 30 years old sitting on your butt at your mommies house smoking a joint and drinking red bull for a living one has to question how long it will take till you get it.

Upbringing vs. sheer will
Some people say oh it’s your up bringing and maybe that has a lot to do with it. Maybe but I doubt it. A lot of people live under their parent’s house growing up and accepting their ideas. Then we go out into the world and realize mommies and daddies didn’t always know best. My family never really pushed me all that hard. I pushed my self, because I didn’t want to become a stereotype and making excuse after excuse for why I can’t hold a job or go to school is just that an excuse.  Look people there are many famous people who have had major to minor learning difficulties. They learned how to deal with them and how to get by in life. Life is a struggle any one who tells you other wise is selling something or is not human. We all struggle. People with learning disabilities just struggle a little harder. It doesn’t mean you get to make an excuse for your self in life for why you are lazy, uneducated and can’t hold any sort of a job at all.

Why I am saying these things
Well who the hell am I to say these things? I am a student, I am a knowledge seeker, I am a hard worker and I struggle with ADD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dysphasia, chronic migraines, as well as Type 1 diabetes.  This does by no means make me an expert, but you know what it does make me a person that wont give up no matter what people say. I keep going and work my butt off getting there and at the end of the day there isn’t any one who can say oh well poor you. You just can’t do it because (insert disorder here).

Learning and experience
Stop making excuses for your life. Get out there and do it. Get out there and learn, make something of your self. Yes people will put you down. Yes it will be hard, but that is life. I can’t stand it when people just make excuses their whole life. Be proud of who you are. Do some self-discovery, learn how to work with your drawbacks in life, learn your strengths, and learn your weaknesses. Only then will you succeed. If you fail once pick your self back up and try again.  Here is a little secrete, I have failed many times. It doesn’t show because I don’t let it effect me. I just keep going.  I understand I can’t be good at everything in life, no one is. I have also tried to master the things I am good at and focused in on them so when I do fail at something I can say well you know what I’m not good at that, but I am very good at this, this and this. Experience life learn form it every step of the way.

Appreciating your difficulties
Many times I heard people say well I’m awkward or I can’t spell or I’m terrible at this and that. That’s fine. Understand why you are and work on it. If you just really can’t spell don’t go find a job where that’s an important part of the work you do. If you are awkward around people don’t find a job where talking to many people is required.  If you really want to get better at something go to seminars, read a book learn and experience. Just because you are bad at something now doesn't mean you cannot get better at it or find away around it. This is what is referred to as fine-tuning your skills. There are so many different things you can do in this world. I know it may seem like there isn’t, but there is. You just have to find your place in the world and what groove you fit best in.  You will find it trust me if you really put forth the effort.

The journey to the path of self-discovery
The Journey and hard work is what intimidates people into making excuses.  Believe me I know. I went through all of this and that is why I am writing this down so it can help others succeed where so many fail. I know the world is scary, but learning how to live in it is part of life. Try to meat others like you who share the same weaknesses and strengths, learn from them.  See where they were able to succeed and understand why they have failed. If you meet people with your like disability you will not feel so alone.  The worst thing we can do is comparing our selves to people who do not suffer from the same things we do.  That is setting your self up for failure. Don’t think you have to be as fast as every one else or just as good. Be the best you can be. Then you will have no reason to feel badly about your self, because you know you have done your absolute best. If that is not good enough for some one move on. Not every one will think you are a genius or talented, that is ok. You cannot please every one all the time. Even at your best learn to accept that. But in learning your sills and fine-tuning them you can be confident in your self to know that you are doing the best you can. You will find out a great many things about your self if you take your self out of your comfort zone. Move away from home, go to school, and discover your self. Yes you have heard artist do this all the time. It is because artist have to be more in tune with their feelings then other people do and if they do not know them selves, then they can not be true to them selves when doing their art and everything they do will be contrived. You don't want to go through life being fake or being something that you are not. Feel comfortable with in your own skin.

Putting your all into your projects.
Put yourself whole-heartedly into what you do. This takes time and effort. This will not happen over night. You must practice it in everything you do. Be a compassionate person. Learn from others and because when you do that you will learn about your self. If you are doing something that requires research give your self the time you need to do that needed learning. If you are doing something you have never done before give your self the time needed to experiment. And actor doesn't just role out of bed and play a character. They do tones of research they find out what psychological problems the character might have had, they read all they can on the character they talk with people who have had similar experiences. This is what is referred to as method acting. Once you have done all you can in preparation for a project then give it your full attention. There will be days you can just not focus. That is fine, Work on something else for the time being, but always come back to it later. Perhaps you just need to go take a walk or listen to music. Some times we need to just step away form what we are doing. But when you come back to what you were doing get back into the groove. Put your self mentally back where you need to. Then strive for the very best and once you have gotten there keep striving. No artist ever stops learning. No actor is ever the best they are going to be in that one role. Keep learning no matter what you do.

Knowledge is power
Learn all you can about your disorder understand your self and push your self. Never let any one else set the bar for your self set it your self, but this doesn't mean be lazy about it. Push your self to be better. Learn all the things necessary to succeed in your given talent.  When you maybe fail in one area and are just not very good at certain subjects just wait till some one starts taking about what you do know and share. Learn to take part in life where you are strong. I have seen many times people be quiet during certain subjects then just blossom when something are being talked about. But remember don't be arrogant. There is a difference between being knowledgeable and being arrogant. Learn to accept other people's point of views as well. Remember you can never learn too much, but you can learn too little.
